Our Rabbit Rescue Story
Since the COVID-19 lockdowns, Dream Care Farm CIC has taken in a growing number of unwanted rabbits. During lockdown, many families welcomed rabbits into their homes while adults were working from home and children had more time to care for them. Unfortunately, when people returned to work and children went back to school—or simply lost interest—some families realised they could no longer provide the time, space and care their rabbits needed.
Rabbits are often considered easy pets, but they need much more care than many people realise. They require plenty of space, daily attention, suitable food, clean bedding, enrichment and regular veterinary treatment. Rabbits are also social animals and benefit from living with a suitable companion.
Some rabbits arrived at the farm without being neutered, and rabbits can reproduce very quickly. Accidental litters have added to the number needing care, while unneutered males must often be housed separately to prevent breeding and fighting.
We would now like to create a larger, safe and secure enclosure where our rabbits can run, explore and live together in suitable social groups. We also need to raise funds to have the boys neutered so they can eventually be safely introduced to other rabbits.
